2015 Report on the Status of Women and Girls (California)

Mount Saint Mary’s University, the only all women’s university in Los Angeles, released the findings of their 4th annual report on the Status of Women and Girls (California).

The report covers approximately a dozen areas ranging from employment and earnings, health, and violence against women, to representation in business, politics, and media.

On average, women in California earn $ 0.84 to their male counterparts ($ 0.79 nationally). More specifically, African American women earn $ 0.64, while Latinas earn $ 0.43, to every dollar earned by male colleagues.

California girls outpace boys in high school and college graduation, and California has the highest number of female-owned business (over one million), yet women have plateaued at 3-4 percent of CEOs of CA’s 400 largest public companies.

The U.S. economy looses an estimated  $450 billion annually from the disparity in women’s wages. Imagine what your world would look like if you were earning at parity to your male counterparts.

Among Hillary Clinton’s last words as Secretary of State:

“If women and girls everywhere were treated as equal to men in rights, dignity, and opportunity, we would see political and economic progress everywhere.”
